Media Training: The Portal

The Portal is a youth outreach non-profit charitable organization in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. The Portal works with youth experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness, providing programs and supports for youth in need. 

Myself and a group of teammates created a media training manual for The Portal to acquaint its staff with media relations, interviews and writing for the press.

Our goal when creating the manual was to provide enough background information to make the document accessible to anyone, while also providing valuable insights for individuals already experienced in interacting with the media. The manual was presented in an engaging and easy-to-follow manner so it could be referenced quickly as needed in the future.

This manual was successful in helping The Portal and its staff gain a stronger understanding of media relations, with the client indicating a higher level of understanding of all topics covered in the manual after reviewing it.
